Missouri visit: Shaw Nature Preserve

One day in Missouri we packed everyone up and brought a picnic to the Shaw Nature Preserve. There's this awesome "natural" style play area with hollow logs, ropes, sticks, and sand to explore. It was chilly and slightly damp so I strapped Amber into her snowsuit for protection. She looked like quite the little elephant next to her pixie sized cousin! We wandered around the park while the kids romped and climbed for almost two hours. We passed out a stack of PBJ sandwiches partway through the adventuring and the kids ate on the go. And of course Em served as photographer for the outing.

There were a few clusters of tall bushes with kid-sized tunnels cut through them: genius play area.

Oh that Chase-face: determinedly collecting a bucket of pinecones.

 Girlie selfie!

Chase kept running away from our group picture. Typical.

Jay and Rose were in heaven--they kept calling all of the parks and places we went in Missouri "forests" because there were more than three trees together. They only ever get to see that many trees together outside of a fruit orchard a couple of times per year, when we visit the west side of WA. We definitely appreciate trees. And sticks, and trails, and playing in good ole fashioned nature.
