Curl girls

Rose loves having curly hair. At least once a week, we do braids in her hair and then take them out the next day so she can wear her hair curly. Usually the waves fall out by the end of the day, but she sure enjoys their fluff and body while they last. She was very excited to try out the foam curlers she got for her birthday. They are flexible foam tubes, and the idea is to wrap the hair around the middle of the stick and fold both ends over the hair to clamp it in place. I don't even own a curling iron so this was brand new territory for me, but I did my best before bedtime on Thursday night.

The little sister wanted curlers too, and she actually stood still long enough for me to get a few into her short uneven hair.

The girls went to sleep on those lumpy curlers and only one of Rose's fell out in bed. Amber lost all but one of hers in her sleep.

The next morning, we removed the curlers, fluffed Rose's hair, and poof! She aged ten years! She was surprised how short her hair looked with all those curls in it, but she bounced around happily all morning, tossing those curls all over the place.

I learned that I should've used more curlers in the back--too much hair per curler dilutes the curl. We still have a lot of experimenting to do.

Meanwhile, Amber, whose hair is naturally a bit curly, had one poofy topknot to show for her night wrapped in foam. It was such a funny little snarl right on top of her head! Her hair is growing in slowly and is thickest right on top, so that's where I positioned the only curler that lasted the night.

I LOVE how much Amber loves Rose. I love watching Amber try to copy Rose. I love how Rose plays with her. Watching my kids become friends with each other is awesome!

The easiest way to get Amber's hair to curl is get it wet. It would even stay curly if she never touched it, rubbed it, sat in her carseat, hid under blankets, did somersaults, wiggled around on the couch, jumped on the trampoline, or had any fun at all. Haha, it stays curly until it's disrupted, then it snarls and fluffs into an unruly halo.

How long till she persuades me to buy my first curling iron?
