Running makes me lazy. I prefer to run in the morning before breakfast. That’s when I feel the most zesty! So I often run a little farther or a little faster than my body is ready to do, thanks to the morning vigor. It feels great for an hour or two, but then I have the rest of the DAY ahead of me! (that makes me sound like a junkie—oh, running!) On those kinds of days, I have to make a careful effort not to be a blob.
But sitting around isn’t always a bad thing, especially if you have a deliciously squishy 5 1/2 month old baby girl and an adventurous, talkative, curious little 2 year-old boy to entertain you. It’s good to take time out from rushing around doing things to just enjoy sitting around.
Yes, that’s right—Rose learned how to sit up unsupported this week! It helps to have a well-rounded booty and nice plump thighs to balance out that heavy head.
Last week I started propping little miss blue eyes up every chance I could, and by Tuesday of this week, she had figured out how to hold herself up. [side note: aren’t those cheeks just delectable?]
Holding those toes sometimes helps keep her upright. It surprised me how suddenly Rose became a sitter-upper. Jay took a lot longer to stabilize himself, probably because he had less junk in his trunk to balance out the rest of his body. But then again, Jay was a roller, while Rose has only rolled over twice in her whole life. And she hasn’t done it in almost a month! The moral of the story is: there’s no telling who’s going to be good a what when.
Feeling thoughtful. I am so surprised at Rose’s sitting-up “prowess” that I keep on taking pictures of her.
Sometimes she leans so-o-o-o far forward it looks painful.
It is so convenient that Rose can sit up so well now. I can just plop her down pretty much anywhere, and she can see what’s going on and she’s content. Unless she has a tooth breaking though her soft tender gums. Then it’s sadness (tooth # 2 peeked out today). Can you tell that she’s watching Jay in this picture? She has her “admiring-my-big-brother” face on.
Speaking of Jay…
Isn’t Jay tan? How did a child of mine get tan? Well, he’s an old hand at sitting up on the floor, but he sat in some less-explored places this week: the dentist chair and the potty! Jeff took him to the dentist for his second-ever checkup. He said Jay was fine until they started raising the chair up, up, up. Then he lost it and got scared. So Jeff held him. Who can blame him? None of our chairs move like that!
As for the potty, in the interest of modesty, I resisted getting the CUTEST picture: Jay sitting on his little potty seat perched on top of the big potty, reading a book. This week we started setting him on the potty 3 times a day just to get him used to the idea. He likes it so far, and yesterday he actually pooped in the potty! It was so unexpected. We danced around and celebrated mucho. [Side note: for someone who “can’t dance,” in a coordinated way, I sure do like to do celebratory jigs!]
There’s never a dull moment with Jay around—he often explores Jeff’s tie collection. Today he selected the snowman tie. It was pretty toasty in our no-A/C apt.
haha, who knows?
Here’s one last new “seat” for Jay. I made him a stick horsey! Our apartment has those sliding windows with wood bars set in the grooves to keep them from opening too far (anti-burglary measures, even though a good burglar would probably just punch through the screen, remove the bar and then open the window). Well, Jay keeps on removing the wood bar from our family room window. I decided to make it into a steed rather than a spear…
Ok, maybe I just turned it into a club. hmm.
All I did was fold a piece of cardboard in half, cut a curve in one side, tape it together, tape on ears and a yarn mane, add a face, and stick the stick in between the cardboard pieces. Easy-peasy, although I did cut my finger in the process. My only yarn is bright blue. So it’s kind of unicorn-ish.
Summary: sitting around is FUN around here. Even when certain little blue eyes open at 5am every day.
