On Thursday, we celebrated Jeff’s 5-day weekend with a family adventure. We took the scenic route to Seattle, through the Chinook Pass. As Jay so wisely stated from the back seat, we were definitely not in Yakima anymore. I took pictures and tried not to stress while Jeff drove our packed little Civic expertly through the snow (the Tennessee girl in me completely rebels at driving in snow).
We couldn’t see any of the sweeping view on our way up the mountain because of thick cloudy fog, but the way down afforded us some snowy vistas.
Rocks? The least of my worries.
We pulled over at a picnic area to let the kids play in the snow. It was COLD up there! We just had on our thin fall jackets, so we only lasted for a few minutes out in the icy air. Jay liked the snow.
Rose was too cold to have an opinion.
I couldn’t resist doing a trot-jog back to the car because it really was quite frigid up there. Well, under the snow was some thick, slick ice. I’m sure you can guess what happened next. I did a classic cartoon fall: windmill arms, feet slipping out and up, landing flat on my back. It all happened so fast that I just laid there in the icy snow stunned and stinging for a few seconds before scrambling up and into the warm, cramped car. I still can’t believe that I DID that! At least there was no blood this time.
Snowy pine trees make me think of Bob Ross.
Two valiant yellow trees shining their warm color amidst a mountain of cold evergreens—so inspiring.
And thus ended part one of our 48 hour family adventure. Stay tuned!
