Happy new year! I’m having a blog crisis! We went on a ten
day trip to Denver over Christmas and got back two days ago. It’s a new year
and after a long 36 hours of a mysterious WordPress outage, I began considering
moving this blog back to my first love, Blogger.
My original blog at jeffandshaina.blogspot.com has been
sitting there untouched and live since May of 2018 when I jumped ship and gave
WordPress a try. After a sincere effort at sleek modern WordPress, I am mostly
convinced that WordPress is not worth the fees.
Yes, WordPress has a much prettier sleeker look than
old-school Blogger, but WordPress’s storage allotment is so limited that I am
running out of room already. I could pay more and get a little more space, but
even that next level is capped. Then what? I guess blogs weren’t meant to be
carried on as long as I have done this one? Or maybe I simply have too many
pictures? Too bad! I’m not stopping now! Blogger has unlimited free storage via
Google Photos.
The main reason I switched to WordPress in the first place
was so I could own my own content and not worry about Google randomly giving up
on Blogger and shutting down all free blogs. Stinking internet and its
ephemeral nature. Is anything really certain online? Since I already save my
writing and pictures separately anyways, if Blogger did randomly shut down I’d
still have access to the past 11 years of my blog content, saved onto my very
own hard drive.
My main motivation for keeping up with this blog is not as
much to share my average life with other people; it’s to keep an orderly,
searchable record of our life. I love being able to sift back through years of
blog posts and find a certain picture or memory. My secondary motivations for
this blog are my beloved, most loyal readers: my Grama and my Mom. They alone
are worth it.
I am currently battling our slowpoke country internet to
transfer the last 6 months of my WordPress blog posts over to Blogger, but it
may take a while. Most people don’t switch from WordPress to Blogger; usually
it’s the other way around, so hopefully I can figure this out. I have a hefty
backlog of posts to catch up on, though, and even though I haven’t gotten my
WordPress content transferred yet, right now my plan is to post on Blogger
anyways.

post. I took it accidentally while I was at the temple back in November. There
I was, basking in the sunshine and trying my best at life. Same old same old.
