Amboots

In early April, I ordered Amber some new pink boots. They were the exact same color and brand (pink Crocs) as her last pair, but two sizes bigger. I had my eye on the adult version of those Croc brand boots because Crocs fit my picky feet nicely, but I didn't want to spend $50 on a pair of rubber boots. Suddenly the price conveniently dropped so I ordered myself a pair for the same price as Amber's boots. Wahoo! I have tried to put Amber in sneakers or even Keen sandals, but she always goes back to her pink boots. Even if they are a little hot in the summer, she loves them because no dirt, rocks, water, or mud get in when she's adventuring. I have struggled to keep my feet clean and my shoes dry on our various walks together for years, and I finally realized if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! Rubber boots for the win!

I thought Amber might be indifferent or disappointed to get the same exact boots, but when we opened the box, she gasped "PINK BOOTS! YAY!" like she hasn't been wearing that exact footwear for the past 15 months. This little episode keeps getting put off but I wanted to remember it and the fun pictures, so here's my brief journal entry about the maiden voyage of our new boots.

Mine and Amber's new Crocs rubber boots came in the mail today, and we broke them in on a nice long ramble out back. I am converted to the joyful magic of rubber boots. My feet stayed comfy, clean, and dry for our entire walk, and I simply rinsed off the mud when we were done. Excellent. After our walk, Amber and I watched a horse cartoon on Netflix (called Spirit--I couldn't resist the pull of girls and horses so I gave in and watched a few episodes with Amber, haha--nostalgia!) and then she bugged/pestered/ pummeled me until the other kids got home from school.

Shiny new and ready for some dirt.

The kids built this bridge across the narrow irrigation ditch. I choose to call it a creek. They choose to call it The Swamp, due to the suctiony mud that lurks along the banks.

We climbed the willow tree together.

We floated dandelion heads down the creek. They were such happy fluffy little sunshine shaped boats that somehow stayed afloat for quite some time.

Note the dry dry feet planted on the squishy squelchy creek bank.

The little dandelion boats were like drops of sunshine on that gray cloudy day.

Our boots began to look more functional and less clean.

The guarantee of dry feet on a wet walk is such a comfort.
